Community Journalism Spotlight

MMX is excited to launch this year our Community Journalism Spotlight, in collaboration with Children’s Radio Foundation, Activate! SA, and with the support of the US Consulate, Johannesburg.

Catch our youth reporters hosting a pop-up radio booth at MMX!  Bigger than life AlexFm and Powerful Young Reporters on Mams FM 92.9 are going to be the hosts in the hot seat!

We’ll welcome 25 radio journalists from across the country for our inaugural programme.

We’ll have special workshops, including, Local Truths in Community Radio, and a Community Journalism Roundtable, Covering Community Stories.

About Children’s Radio Foundation

Children’s Radio Foundation (CRF) partners with community radio, community-based organisations, schools, health clinics and young people to create opportunities for youth participation, leadership and active citizenship.  The Children’s Radio Foundation (CRF) gives young people the skills and tools to make their voices heard. With over 50 youth radio projects across 5 African countries, we work with radio stations and youth organizations to create opportunities for youth dialogue, social engagement, leadership, and action.

Through radio broadcasts, young people speak about their concerns and reach out to their peers and wider community about the issues they face.

By building a network of informed and engaged youth reporters, CRF nurtures active citizens who contribute to individual and collective social change.

Young people have a lot to think about, but not enough outlets to speak about their challenges, to voice their concerns, or to share their triumphs and strategies for success. They need the opportunities to tell their own stories and to learn from the experiences of others. Reaching millions of listeners, speaking in local languages, and addressing the concerns that affect the community, radio has the ability to create these important platforms for youth dialogue across the African continent.
